Typography courses at SA+D
The School of Art + Design on the Takoma Park / Silver Spring campus offers two courses in typography, open to SA+D students only:
GD220 Typography I
Typography is introduced as both an art form and visual communication tool. Students gain anunderstanding of the historical, technical, and practical aspects of typography, including a solid foundation in type classification and measurements systems. Student produce compositions in a variety of formats emphasizing original solutions to problems concerning the organization of textual information.
GD221 Typography II
This course builds upon the basic knowledge and experience gained in Typography I. Students further their awareness of the expressive nature of type with an emphasis toward developing their own personal typographic style. Students create work in a variety of formats emphasizing originality. Typography in motion is introduced.
