Search Tips

Building construction is a multi-disciplinary field. Consider these subjects when searching for materials in this field: plumbing; carpentry; framing; construction materials such as concrete, masonry, steel, or timber; woodworking; renovation; building codes; and electrical wiring.

Research Tip:

  • Identify keywords related to your topic
  • Keyword termininology can be found by scanning general/background information on your topic in encyclopedias and other reference materials and by reading over bibliographies located at the end of books
  • Use a thesaurus to identify synonyms for your topic
  • If you are still struggling with keyword selection think about brainstorming word possibilities with your instructor, a librarian, or a friend
