Information Literacy Week: Past Years

Celebrate MC’s second annual Information Literacy Week with the Library this September! This year’s theme is Information Crossroads: Where knowledge meets opportunity.

2025

The library’s second annual Information Literacy Week was held September 22–26, 2025. Fifteen events were offered, drawing over 400 students, faculty, and staff across all three campuses and online. The combination of online (9), in-person (5), and 1 hybrid session expanded access for participants across the college community. Topics covered AI and emerging information practices, ethical AI use, digital misinformation, effective research strategies, critical evaluation, and clear communication of information. Featured speaker, Mike Caufield, provided expert insight on how artificial intelligence is reshaping information literacy, addressing the challenges and opportunities of using AI-informed strategies to evaluate and contextualize digital content.

The week aimed to develop advocates for information literacy, foster media literacy, empower students and the community with lifelong information skills, explore ethical AI use, and promote ongoing dialogue in information creation and use. We are deeply grateful to all presenters who helped us advance these objectives.

2024

The library’s inaugural Information Literacy Week was held September 23-27, 2024.  Fourteen events were held, drawing over 200 students, faculty, and staff, at all three campuses and online.  Many of the sessions used hy-flex technology to combine in-person and online attendance to reach a wider audience. Topics ranged from misinformation to climate change, drawing inspiration from the upcoming elections and our students’ needs as burgeoning scholars.  Our featured speaker, Nina Jankowicz, gave us an expert perspective on foreign interference and disinformation for the last decade.  Our goal for this week was to raise awareness of the lifelong skill of information literacy, and we are grateful to all the presenters who helped us to advance this.
