Information Literacy Week 2025: Proposal Guidelines

Theme: Information Crossroads: Where Knowledge Meets Opportunity
Dates: September 22–26, 2025
Location: All four Montgomery College campuses + virtual and asynchronous spaces

The MC Library Information Week Committee invites you to submit engaging and innovative proposals for the 2nd Annual Information Literacy Week. At this pivotal moment in our relationship with information, we strive to empower our students and community to understand information literacy as a critical lifelong skill, explore the innovative and ethical use of AI, and foster ongoing dialogue in the creation and use of information.

We are especially seeking proposals that integrate timely topics like media literacy, equity and inclusion, and the ethical use of AI tools.

Suggested Formats

  • In-person: interactive workshops, film discussions, panel discussions
  • Virtual (synchronous): workshops, Q&A sessions, live discussions
  • Asynchronous: trivia contests, games, scavenger hunts

Proposal Process

To express interest, please complete the brief 2025 IL Week Proposal and Expression of Interest Form linked above. After submission, MC Library staff will contact you to help shape your full proposal. Be ready to discuss:

  • Would you like to lead this session or co-present with a MC Library staff member
  • What is your preferred format (in-person, virtual, asynchronous)?
  • Who is the primary audience (students, faculty, staff, or a mix)?
  • What resources or support do you need from the MC Library?
  • Do you have any questions or ideas for collaboration?

Selection Criteria

We strongly encourage collaborative proposals that involve the MC Library in planning or co-presenting, and student-centered sessions that include hands-on activities or audience participation. Proposals will be reviewed based on:

  • Clear alignment with the 2025 theme
  • Relevance to current trends in information and media literacy
  • Presenter’s expertise and/or unique perspective on the topic
  • Inclusivity and accessibility of the session
  • Contribution to core skills: finding, evaluating, using, and attributing information

Let’s make Information Literacy Week an energizing, inclusive, and inspiring experience for the entire Montgomery College community!
