"Criminal justice refers to the system of government institutions that address crime and punishment. ... The United States has the highest incarceration rate and the largest prison population in the world... Individual biases, regional and cultural norms, economic inequities, and systemic discrimination all contribute to disparities in how different people experience the US criminal justice system. ... Civil and human rights activists have repeatedly called for criminal justice reform..."
