LGBTQ+ Rights

Despite advances made at the federal level, LGBTQ+ people continue to face discrimination and obstacles to equality in some states. ... Despite general agreement among the national public that the law should protect LGBTQ+ people from discrimination, there has been a rise in overtly anti-LGBTQ+ legislation at the state level since the mid-2010s. ... The surge in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation led the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), a national nonprofit organization focused on advancing LGBTQ+ rights, to issue a report declaring a state of emergency for LGBTQ+ Americans in 2023.
